Chad and I have known each other since high school, when Chad and his brothers worked at Dick's Supermarket, and I used to do a lot of the family grocery shopping. While we knew one another, we had barely ever spoken, and we both ended up on different paths as we ventured into adulthood. It would be a decade or more before we'd run into each other again, when Chase and Allison ended up in the same ELP classroom. The real start of our relationship, though, began one night when I was out with one of my work friends at Jeffrey's. As we sat there, she said she had received a message from Chad, and he was going to join us. She made it sound as if Chad has initiated contact with her, but I would find out later that she actually had some history with Chad and was hoping that night to maybe reconnect. Chad was just looking to get out of bad blind date and welcomed the excuse to leave. The three of us sat at a table and talked that night, and at one point, Chad said something about how he was having fun and would hang out with us again, but that he only hears from Abby "about once a year." I joked that I was more reliable, and could be better trusted to let him know when we were out again, so he and I exchanged numbers. Weeks later, Chad sent me a friend request on Snapchat. I accepted, and we started messaging here and there. It took me months to realize his intention of trying to be more than just friends! We eventually started hanging out frequently and talking to each other all the time. We definitely had chemistry, but our relationship became the definition of complicated! I knew a few months into this "situationship" (we were a couple in so many ways, but never officially dated or labeled it as such) that I loved him and was pretty positive he was my person. I think the feeling was mutual... Chad just didn't know (or want to admit) it! Over the course of roughly two years, things would get pretty serious between us, and then he'd get cold feet and distance himself from me... Not just once, but a total of four times! Each time was a real blow to me, but by that fourth time, I was over the rollercoaster. I remember telling one of my friends that I still felt in my soul that he was my person, but that maybe I wasn't his. I was pretty bitter, and done giving him the time of day, let alone pursing him. Well, it was somewhere in the months that followed that Chad realized that things between he and I were the real deal, and he'd screwed up big time. Mutual friends and acquaintances told me that he'd admitted as much to them. One told me that he'd said if there was any one person meant for him, it was me. Nonetheless, Chad tried multiple times to reach out to me, and he was mostly met with a very cold shoulder. His mind was made up this time, though, and he was persistent in his pursuit. Eventually, I caved. And here we are today.
